Agape Women on Mission
Our Agape Women on Mission group gathers on the second Monday afternoon of every month, from 1:00 - 2:00 in our Community Room. Mark your calendars for this important time of fellowship and service. Join us as we come together to support various missions, both locally and globally, and make a tangible difference in the lives of others. From organizing our annual School Supplies Drive to participating in Christmas mission and outreach programs, our group is dedicated to being the hands and feet of Jesus. Together, we can spread the love of Christ and empower those in need. We hope you will join us as we serve God, grow in our faith and build meaningful connections with other women in our church family. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
Sunday Morning Schedule Change
On Sunday, December 22 and Sunday, December 29, we will have one combined worship service at 10:00 am in our Sanctuary. Nursery will be available.
Our regular schedule for both services and Sunday School will resume on Sunday, January 5.
Cornhole Tuesdays for Seniors
Don’t miss Cornhole Tuesdays in our Fellowship Hall, each Tuesday from 10:00 am - 11:30 am! This is for seniors age 50 and up. Guests are always welcome! It is a great way to get moving and meet new friends. No experience is needed. We will teach you how to play. See you there!
Monday Morning Bible Study
Our Monday morning Bible study meets at 10:00 a.m. in our Community Room.
This year we will study the Book of Romans. This in-depth Bible study was written by Betty Morin-Griffin and is being taught by Charlene Smith.
On Tuesday, September 3rd at 10am in the Community Room you can come by and pick up a book and meet the other participants. The weekly study will begin on September 16th .

Thrive Group Meetings
Our Thrive Small Groups will begin meeting weekly the week of January 19. Our book study for this term is The Good and Beautiful You, the fourth and final book in James Bryan Smith's series. We already have copies available for you! Feel free to swing by the office to pick up your copy, or let us know, and we’ll find a way to get it to you.
Small groups are centered around deepening your faith, connecting with others, and embarking on a journey of Bible study and fellowship. Our Thrive Groups, consisting of around 8 people, create an intimate and supportive environment where you can explore your faith and build lasting friendships.

Thrive Tutoring
Each Tuesday, during the school year, we have Thrive Tutoring. We pick our students up at Grove Park Elementary and bring them to our church. They have snack time while they visit with their tutors. They then have their tutor time where we work with them on their reading skills. Our goal is to get each student reading at grade level. When tutoring is over, we take them home.
Our hope is to build meaningful relationships with our students and their families. We want them to know how much God loves them, and that God desires good for them. This is one of the ways we are helping children thrive in God’s abundant life.
Men’s Bible Studies
First Baptist offers two Men’s Bible Studies. One meets on Sunday afternoons at 5:30 pm, in The FBC Gathering Place. The other meets for breakfast on Tuesday mornings at 7:30, at the Burlington Cracker Barrel. For more information, please contact us at Office@FirstBaptistBurlington.com
Memorial Sunday
Join us on Sunday, January 14, in our 9:00 and 11:00 Worship Services, as we remember those in our church family who passed away in 2024, and pray for those who are grieving.
Children’s New Year Party!
We are hosting a Children’s New Year Party on Sunday, January 5th. We will meet in the Community Room immediately after our 11:00 Worship service! This event is for kids of all ages, so everyone can join in the fun!
We will enjoy pizza, cookie decorating, and winter-themed games! The fun will wrap up by 1:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!
Christmas Candlelight Communion
We hope you’ll join us for this reflective service in the intimate setting of our Chapel. Here, we will read the scriptures and sing the carols that tell the Christmas story, ultimately leading to partaking in communion together. As we light our candles at the end of the service, we are truly remembering the reason for the season.
JOY Group Christmas Caroling
JOY group will be having Carols and Cookies tomorrow, December 19th at 1:30pm in the Gathering place. Everyone is invited! Please bring a Christmas goody to share (cookies, candy, etc).

An Old Fashioned Christmas
In the busyness of the season, we hope you’ll come rest awhile and be transported as our Sanctuary Choir and Instrumental Ensemble present a musical program of nostalgia. Every song on the program is a variation on a well-known Christmas carol, and there will even be opportunities for you to sing along. The carols will be interspersed with meaningful readings, narrated by our own Bob Finley. There will be a reception afterward in the Gathering Place.
This concert is also serving as an opportunity to collect donations for two worthy causes. We will be taking up canned goods for our local Allied Churches food bank, and there will be an offering during the concert to raise donations for our friends in the western part of the state who are still recovering from Hurricane Helene.
This is a great event to invite friends or neighbors to. We hope to see you there!
Chrismon Ornament Workshop
If you’ve ever gazed at the sanctuary Chrismon tree and its beautiful ornaments and wondered, “How do they make those?,” here’s your chance to find out firsthand. After a light lunch, Anne Macy will lead a workshop and tutorial on how to build two beginner-level Chrismon patterns: the basic IXOYC Fish and “I Am the Light,” which is a candle design. Participants will walk away with their own hand-crafted ornament.
If you are interested, please register with the church office by Tuesday, November 26th. The cost is $7 per pattern that you wish to make, which covers the cost of materials. This unique experience is available to all ages, so bring the whole family! To register, email us at Office@FirstBaptistBurlington.com and let us know the number of people who will be attending.
Hanging of the Greens
Please come to this family-friendly event, where we usher in Advent season by decorating the church with festive greenery and fill the space with light. We will decorate at 5:30. There will be a children’s tree where they can hang their own hand-made ornaments. At 6:00, we will have our worship service, with Christmas readings and familiar Christmas carols. By the end of the service, the sanctuary will be filled with greenery, and our Chrismon tree will be lit up. Please kick off your holiday season with us!

Invitation to Gratitude - Thanksgiving Vespers Series
We are excited about our Thanksgiving Vespers Series, Invitation to Gratitude. This four week devotional series has been created to align us with our mission focus: helping people thrive in God's abundant life. Service Project
On Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 3:30, our deacons are sponsoring a service project. We will come together in the Fellowship Hall to make “Blessing Bags” for people who are homeless in our community.
We will make 100 Blessing bags to give to Allied Churches Homeless Shelter and we will keep some for us to give when we have people in need. Items in the bag will include:
16 oz bottle of water, granola bar, hand wipes, pop top can of food, a pair of socks, tissues, warming blanket, a personal note from FBC and Pastor Chase
We need 100 of each item listed.
First Baptist Trunk-or-Treat
Join us for Trunk-or-Treat on Wednesday evening, October 30 from 4:30 - 6:00pm. This will be a fun family event for our kids and our community! Everyone is invited to join us for treats, games, and more! Come and bring a friend!
FBC Quarterly Business Meeting
Our Quarterly Business Meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 in our fellowship Hall. This meeting will be held in-person. There will not be an option to participate online.
J.O.Y. Group
J.O.Y. Group members will meet on Thursday, October 10th to go to lunch at Mosca’s Italian Restaurant (self pay), then to Harvest Baptist Church for an update on what’s happening with Medicare next year. Everyone will meet at 11:00 at the First Baptist Welcome Center. We will return around 4:00 p.m.

BBQ & BINGO!
Join us in the Fellowship Hall for BBQ & BINGO on Saturday, October 5 from 4:30-6:30 pm. This will be a fun afternoon of good food and fellowship! We will be meeting for a potluck supper, with our delicious barbecue provided by our own Roger Phillips. Please bring either a side your favorite apple dessert to share. Called Business Meeting
The members of our Ad Hoc Study Team for the Children and Youth Ministry Position are ready to present their recommendations to our church family. This will happen in a called business meeting on Thursday, October 3 at 6:15 p.m. This meeting will be a hybrid meeting. Members are encouraged to attend in person. However, a zoom link will be provided for those who are not able to attend in person.
Breakfast Fellowship
We will enjoy a Fellowship Breakfast on Sunday, September 29 at 9:00 a.m. in our Fellowship Hall, followed by a combined Worship Service at 10:30 a.m., also in the Fellowship Hall. We hope to see you there! Click here to register for breakfast. The last day to register is September 23rd.
Christmas Mission Projects
First Baptist Christmas Mission Projects
Each year First Baptist engages in two major Christmas Mission Projects. One serves impoverished children in the Appalachian Coalfields. The other serves children in need around the world.
The Appalachian Coalfields Ministry seeks to meet physical and spiritual needs of people living in the Appalachian Area. One of the greatest ministry needs for children in this area occurs around Christmastime. Our goal is to collect filled backpacks to be distributed to Appalachian children in areas of need in late November and December. The statewide collection date will be Saturday, November 3.
The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. Our collection date is Sunday, November 3.

Kids' Character!
Each month our Children’s Ministry focuses on learning about a new character trait. In the month of September, we are focusing on faithfulness.
Our Bible verse is Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. 6 Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.
Back to School Blessings
On Sunday, August 25 we will have our Back-to-School Blessings Service! Please invite educators and students, who will soon be returning to school, to join us at our 9:00 or 11:00 Worship Service. We want to show our appreciation for the work they do and pray for them as the begin the new school year!
Congregation Workshop for Growth
If you want to learn more about our Church’s Strategy for Growth and what impact you can have on the growth of First Baptist, you won’t want to miss our Congregation Workshop for Growth on Wednesday, August 14 at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Our church’s calling is to help people thrive in God’s abundant life. This is the key to church growth. It’s not about what we want from people; it’s about what we want for people. Come and learn more about how you can be a part of this meaningful mission!
Annual School Supply Drive
Agape Women on Mission are sponsoring our annual collection of school supplies for teachers in our church. This collection will run until August 18. If you are unable to shop and would like to contribute, please contact the church office and a member of the missions group will be glad to shop for you. For a list of needed supplies check out our Missions Page.
Summer Social Potluck Picnic
You won’t want to miss our Summer Social Potluck Picnic at Springwood Park on Saturday, July 14 from 4:00 - 6:30 pm. There will be hotdogs and hamburgers provided. We ask that everyone attending please bring a side dish or dessert to share. The Church Bus will be available for transportation from the Church at 3:45pm, if needed. We hope to see you there! Vacation Bible School
Children, ages 4 - rising 5th graders, are invited to join us for Vacation Bible School. It will be held in the evenings from Monday, June 24 through Thursday, June 27 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Dinner will be served before VBS at 5:00 p.m.

Graduation Sunday
Our Graduation Sunday will be held on Sunday, June 2 at our 9:00 and our 11:00 services. We will be celebrating all graduates. If you know someone who is graduating and would like to be recognized, use the link below to email us their full name, their email address, and the program and institution from where they are graduating. We are so proud of our graduates! We look forward to celebrating with them and their families!
Special Worship Concert &
Our Music Ministry is excited to announce a special combined worship service on Sunday, May 26th. We will be hosting the Youth Choir of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, from Signal Mountain, Tennessee. Many of our members will remember its directors, Jason and Beth DuRoy. Jason was our organist for several years. He and his family are looking forward to seeing this church family again.
In order to allow for loving fellowship, there will be a churchwide luncheon in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Chicken pie and drinks will be provided. Church members are asked to please bring side dishes and desserts to share.
There will be no 9:00 service that morning, so we can allow the group to rehearse as needed. All are welcome and invited at 11:00.

Stamp Out Hunger
On Saturday May 11, 2024, letter carriers in our area will collect financial contributions and non-perishable food donations, along with regular mail pick-up and drop-off.
All food and funds collected stay right here in our community. This year’s drive couldn’t be more timely, as pantries, no-cost food markets, and meal sites throughout our region prepare for the challenging summer months.
