Thrive Tutoring

Each Tuesday, during the school year, we have Thrive Tutoring. We pick our students up at Grove Park Elementary and bring them to our church. They have snack time while they visit with their tutors. They then have their tutor time where we work with them on their reading skills. Our goal is to get each student reading at grade level. When tutoring is over, we take them home.

Our hope is to build meaningful relationships with our students and their families. We want them to know how much God loves them, and that God desires good for them. This is one of the ways we are helping children thrive in God’s abundant life.

Christmas Mission Projects

Christmas Mission Projects

First Baptist Christmas Mission Projects

Each year First Baptist engages in two major Christmas Mission Projects. One serves impoverished children in the Appalachian Coalfields. The other serves children in need around the world.

The Appalachian Coalfields Ministry seeks to meet physical and spiritual needs of people living in the Appalachian Area.  One of the greatest ministry needs for children in this area occurs around Christmastime. Our goal is to collect filled backpacks to be distributed to Appalachian children in areas of need in late November and December. The statewide collection date will be Saturday, November 4.

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. They ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. Our collections date is Sunday, November 12.
